I’m on a school spirit high.

August 16, 2012

And loving every second of it.

The past five days have been jam-packed with awesome school happenings.  The highlights:

  • Tomato Fest 5k.  Early morning Saturday, we had eleven teachers/administrators/spouses running the Tomato Fest 5k.  After weeks of trash talking and semi-“training”, race day had finally come and it couldn’t have been any more awesome.  Nine additional teachers/spouses lined the race course as our cheer crews, shouting and cheering us along through the hilly streets of East Nashville.  Everyone was decked out in their finest Litton Pridewear, making an incredible showing for our school.
  • Open house 2012.  Last night, we hosted our Open House for students.  I think back to my first Open House at my school and the underwhelming turnout we saw.  I was astounded that there were more staff members present at that first meeting than parents.  Last night, we had nearly 250 parents, students, family, and community members in attendance at our Open House.  The building was buzzing with energy and excitement.  And we didn’t even feed people!  The old saying, “Feed them and they will come,” has become, “Provide a welcoming environment and they will be involved.”  I just want to have Open House all the time so I can experience that level of excitement again.  It was incredible.
